Zeta

Short vegetation period and resistance to potato cyst nematodes are just the beginning of Zeta’s advantages.

Variety characteristic:

Zeta is a plant of medium height with a compact canopy. The length of the growing period is approximately 96 days. It reaches technological maturity the end of August what makes Zeta an ideal variety for an early delivery at campaign start in the processing companies. The undoubted advantage of the variety is its outstanding resistance to potato cyst nematode Globodera pallida (Pa3), the occurrence of which pathogene has increased in recent years in Poland and the Western Europe. Under favorable conditions, it can achieve a starch content of over 20% and a total yield of over 40 t/ha.

Plant and tuber:

Flesh colour: light yellow
Skin colour: yellow
Tuber shape: round oval
Eye depth: 6,5 – middle/shallow
Foliage development: medium intense
Storage ability: 8,0 – very good
Yield: 33,6 t/ha (according to COBORU) – medium
Dormancy period: long, remains dormant until spring
Starch content: 19,4 % (according to COBORU)
Starch yield: 6,3 t/ha
Length of the vegetation period: 96 days

Resistances:

PCN: Ro1 – resistant, Pa3 – resistant in degree 6
Synchytrium endobioticum: D1 – resistant
Common scab: 8,0 – high
Mechanical damage: 6,0 – medium/high
Foliage blight: 4,0 – medium
Tuber blight: 4,0 – medium
Potato virus Y (PVY): 7,0 – high

Site requirements:

Zeta is a variety with higher soil and water requirements. Fertilization should be adapted to the planned direction of use and harvest date. Excessive nitrogen fertilization can significantly extend the vegetation period and reduce the starch content.
