Bzura

The greatest advantage of this variety is the guarantee of a high starch yield on poor soils even in season with little rainfall, where other starchy varieties will bring a much lower yield.

Variety characteristic:

Bzura is a tall plant with a compact canopy. It is is especially liked for its full resistence to PVY and for very high resistence to foliage blight, which determines the extremely high leaf health. The greatest advantage of this variety is a high yield stability obtained even on poor soils in season with little rainfall, where other starch varieties will provide a much lower yield.

Dormancy period: medium
Starch content: 19 % (according to COBORU)
Starch yield: 8,0 t/ha

Resistances:

PCN: Ro1 – resistant
Common scab: 5,5 – medium
Mechanical damage: high
Foliage blight: 8 – very high
Tuber blight: 4 – medium
Potato virus Y (PVY): 9 resistant
Metribuzin sensitivity: moderately sensitive

Site requirements:

Bzura has low demands to soil quality, fertilization and water supply. It is especially suitable for lighter soil types. Good tolerance to temporary drought. Fertilization should be adjusted to the planned direction of use and harvest date. An excess of nitrogen may extend vegetation of plants and may reduce the starch content. Such a situation is, in case of a variety with a long growing season, extremely unfavorable.
